PKD Champions United on the Hill 2009
Your Advocacy Can Help Cure PKD

Why participate in PKD Champions United on the Hill? Simply put, your advocacy is vital to our efforts to cure PKD. In 2008, PKD Champions from 24 states met in the nation’s capital to learn about our legislative priorities, meet with Congressional officials, and call on them to support our mission to cure PKD.

U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA), second from left, met with PKD advocates from Pennsylvania and Florida during the 2008 PKD Champions United on the Hill event.

The efforts of those advocates led to the passage of the Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act (GINA), which was signed into law on May 21, 2008.

Even with the passage of GINA, our work is far from over. The investment in PKD research by the federal government is too low. PKD patients with kidney transplants face inadequate Medicare coverage for immunosuppressive drugs. Other legislative and regulatory policy goals that could improve the lives of PKD patients remain unmet.

Join us March 2-3, 2009, in Washington, D.C., for a day-and-a-half that will help us move closer to a cure for PKD. Space is limited! The PKD Foundation is offering a $150 per night room rate for participants at the Four Points Sheraton in downtown Washington. Click here to make a reservation.
